Dynamic wrinkles are
caused by contractions of
the delicate underlying facial muscles every time
you frown or squint. In particular, a furrow in the
area between our brows may appear and persist
because of the repeated, often unconscious action
of a muscle called a "corrugator". These furrows
can produce an angry or frustrated look.
Now, thanks to Botox, worry lines, frown lines and
crows feet can be dramatically improved. |

Botox is a purified protein, produced by a bacterium.
Used in tiny amounts and
in specific muscles, injections of Botox will relax that specific muscle. After
treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated
facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expression.
Botox injections have been
used safely and effectively for years to treat many
ophthalmological and neurological disorders. Each year,
thousands of patients
receive Botox treatments for a variety of conditions
and it is quickly becoming a
popular treatment for reversing the visible signs of
aging. Because of its safety
and effectiveness, Botox treatment has become one of
the most popular
cosmetic procedures.
Cosmetic treatment with Botox is a simple and safe procedure.
Using a tiny
micro-needle, a very small amount of Botox is injected,
very precisely, into
several locations on the face. Because the needle is
so fine and only a small
amount of liquid is used, the discomfort associated
with the injections is
minimal. No sedation or local anesthetic is required,
and you can resume normal
activities immediately. You can even drive yourself
home or back to the office.
Some patients experience a slight temporary bruising
at the injection site. This
can be covered with make-up. Rarely, patients may develop
a slight lowering
(ptosis) of the eyelid. This may or may not be noticed
and is always temporary.
A headache can occur after treatment but is not common.
Botox should not be
used if you may be pregnant or suffer from a neurologic
disease.
If dynamic wrinkles make you look older and more serious
than you are, Botox
treatment can smooth these out and give you a more youthful
and pleasant
appearance. The effect of Botox treatment is temporary.
Most patients require
treatment about every 4 months to maintain the desired
results.
As of January 2008 Dr. Shiffman has performed over 2000
Botox procedures.
Dr. Shiffman believes that all Botox treatments should
be performed by a
physician who is properly trained in the procedure and
who has the relevant
medical background. Because of this, Dr. Shiffman performs
all of the Botox
procedures personally and does not designate this task
to a nurse or technician.
He regularly attends meetings at which the top Botox
injectors in Canada
discuss advances in the field. Dr. Shiffman has lectured
and performed onstage
Botox demonstrations at the "New You" cosmetic
show.
More recently, Botox has been used to control excessive
axillary sweating. The
treatments are safe and often quite dramatic. The effect,
although temporary,
can last for up to 4-8 months.
